As families of international students, we understand that your concerns may be a little bit more amplified and your questions may be vast. For this reason, we encourage you to attend a series of orientation programs that will inform you about the culture of the campus.

New Student Orientation Program: This program is required for all new students and is hosted by your student’s college. Click on your student’s college to read about the program.

Depending on the college, this program is scheduled for one or two days during the week of September 16-20.

Parent and Family Orientation Program: This program is for parents and families of all students beginning college in the fall. Your student’s college host this program which provides information about the culture of the college and sessions on paying tuition, student health services, campus safety, and more. Click on your student’s college to read about the program.

Depending on the college, this program is scheduled for one day during the week of September 16-20. Attend the same orientation date as your student.

New International Student Orientation Program: This program is for students only, required for all new international students, and is hosted by the International Students & Programs Office. Click here to learn about this program.

This program is scheduled during the week of September 16-20.

International Parent & Family Orientation Program: This program is only for families of international college students starting this fall and is hosted by the Office of Parent & Family Programs. Though not required, this program focuses on supporting parents and families of international students. Click on schedule of events to learn about what the program includes.

Check-In and Schedule of the Day | Sunday, Sept. 22

The International Parent & Family Orientation schedule includes presentations from various departments geared to help you understand important information to support your student. A detailed schedule will be available in September.

Registering for the Program

International Parent & Family Orientation on September 22 is free and includes meals, valuable materials, and useful presentations to help you support your student's transition to UC San Diego. Registration for the International Parent & Family Orientation, September 22 is now open.

New International Student Orientation | Sunday, Sept. 22

The International Students & Programs Office is looking forward to welcoming your student to UC San Diego in September.

  • All new international students in F-1/J-1 status (including students transferring from other U.S. schools) are required to attend the mandatory New International Student Orientation.
    NOTE: This is separate from the College orientation. Students must attend both mandatory sessions.
  • International students must register for the New International Student Orientation.
    NOTE: The New International Student Orientation is separate from the International Parent & Family Orientation.
  • Students receive registration and pre-arrival information via e-mail from the International Students & Programs Office.

Additional Assistance

As part of the registration process, you will be able to indicate additional needs to make your experience more enjoyable. We will try our best to meet these accommodations provided the request was made in time to provide the service.

Directions and Parking

Please follow directions to and park in the Gilman Parking Structure (map). Parking on weekends is free - a permit is not required. Note: Refrain from parking in spaces marked reserved 24/7, loading, handicap (unless you have a permit), and unmarked curbs. Read more about parking on campus. There will be directional signs to help you find Gilman Parking Structure.

Driving directions to Gilman Parking Structure:

  1. Take I-5 south.
  2. Take the La Jolla Village Drive exit.
  3. Turn right onto La Jolla Village Drive.
  4. Take the Gilman Drive ramp.
  5. Turn right on Gilman Drive.
  6. Follow Gilman Drive to the Gilman Parking Structure, which is located on Villa La Jolla Drive and Gilman Drive.

If you decide to use Lyft, UBER, or a taxi, ask the driver to drop you off on Rupertus Lane.

If you or any family member has a physical limitation of any kind preventing you/them from walking, please call          (858) 900-6947. This number will be active at 7 a.m. - 2 p.m. on the day of the event.

Join us for Homecoming Weekend, October 18 - 20, 2019. The weekend is filled with great information and fun events geared to reconnect with your student. Homecoming Weekend is a great opportunity to come to campus if you are unable to join us for the orientation program.
