Health and Well-Being
Personal health is a huge factor in academic success. Your student has access to a wealth of health-related resources, from primary and urgent medical care to counseling and well-being programs.
Student Health Services
Student Health Services (SHS) provides quality primary medical care, including urgent care and support services such as laboratory, pharmacy, optometry and x-ray. SHS is staffed with board certified primary care physicians and nurse practitioners, as well as practitioners with additional training and expertise in gynecology, sports medicine, urgent care and mental/behavioral health.

Counseling and
Psychological Services (CAPS)
For students seeking services for mental health issues (including, but not limited to: stress, sleep issues, depression, anxiety, academic distress, relationship issues, etc.), Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides free, confidential psychological counseling and crisis services for all registered UC San Diego students. CAPS also provides a variety of groups, workshops and drop-in forums. CAPS offers 15 locations across campus: a central office (Galbraith Hall 190) and an office in each of the seven undergraduate colleges, graduate student housing, OASIS and the campus community centers. Appointments must be scheduled by students. After-hours crisis counseling is available 24 hours a day at (858) 534-3755 (select option 2).
If your student appears distressed or expresses emotional struggles, Triton CORE can help. This is a team of licensed mental health professionals that responds to behavioral health crises anywhere on campus. They work with students on matters such as thoughts of suicide, thoughts of harming others, significant behavior changes, and other forms of emotional distress.
Students can still meet with clinicians at Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) Urgent Care (Galbraith Hall, RM 190, available M-F 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.), but if unable to do so, can receive immediate, on-campus support from this team. Triton CORE services include mental health evaluations, safety planning, care coordination, and, if needed, transport to higher-level care such as the emergency department or crisis stabilization unit.
Availability: Monday–Friday, 10am – 10pm.
Contact: Call the UC San Diego Police Department (UCPD) Non-Emergency line at 858-534-HELP (4357) and ask for Triton CORE.
